Flaw found in Symantec products

Posted by Jordan Erickson

Apparently, a flaw in Norton Firewall and Norton Internet Security Suites causes a user to get kicked off any IRC (Internet Relay Chat) channels they happen to be on if anyone in the chat channel says the word “startkeylogger” or “stopkeylogger”. Do a Google News search for these keywords and you’ll most likely find the Washington Post blog article on this.

This is a very interesting software flaw for a few reasons, and it seems as though Symantec might catch some heat for this one since it seems like a fairly trivial concept that can be taken advantage of.

Most of my customers probably know by now that I am a huge AVG (http://www.grisoft.com) Antivirus fan, and have been for a few years. I am a strong believer that the best tool is one that does one thing, and does it better than any other. It is fast, lightweight and unintrusive to you while you go about your day, catching any trace of virus activity across your computer or network. Call me at 707-636-5678 if you want to talk more about implimenting AVG Antivirus on your computer or network.
